Evaluation of Larry Ferlazzo's Blog

Evaluation of Larry Ferlazzo's Blog

💗 Today I looked at Larry Ferlazzo's blog and I found something interesting! 😀

Organisation and Layout

Overall, the layout and organisation of the blog are desirable to some degree. But that is dependent on which page you are looking at.
  • The cover page (the first page): The layout is clear. By using some short subtitles, and removing the sidebar, the blog is in good order and more spacious. The pictures are a little bit cluttered but I think it is still acceptable.

  • Clicking the subtitles (the other pages): The layout starts to be messy and unclear. There are too many colour blocks and long titles without showing bullet points.

Content and Features

The blog provides us with various teaching materials, including different domains (arts, economy, etc.), forms (chart, video, screenshot, audio clip, etc.), topics (racism, politic issues, teacher development, etc.), audiences (parents, teachers, and other educators). It is so inclusive and filled with great content. It tries to provide most educators with abundant resources.
However, I think the focus of this blog is too broad. It sometimes caused the cluttered structures and contents.

Another point worth making is that it shows instruction on the first page, making the contents clearer for the audience.

Ease of Use and Navigation

The subtitles are clear but sometimes hard to read. Some pages achieved high readability, and thus I am sure about my following steps. But some still need improvement. For example, I got lost in these pages.

Target Audience

This blog is for passionate educators, including parents and teachers (especially English teachers), who desire to enrich their teaching materials. In previous years, the interactions between the blogger and audiences are frequent. But I did not see many comments in recent blogs.

  1. This is a really nice review, and I agree it does seem cluttered(in your ease of navigation section)

  3. Very nice and organized post, Daisy. I think you are right about the idea of the broad focus of Ferlazzo's blog.

I think you have a neat spicy blog :)

  4. Hi Daisy, Thanks so much for your take on Larry Ferlazzo's blog, and thank you for the embedded link - that's always a good idea! I think you have done a great job here especially with the illustrative screenshots! It's true that there is a lot of content on there and it starts to become overwhelming so well done for pointing that out. He seems to love collecting lots of links or 'ten best...' reviews and although it might look exciting - in actual fact it can be frustrating when each link just takes you to more links. This is a lesson to learn for blogging - make sure you have something to say, not just a link to someone else's content. I like the simple uncluttered view of your blog and the 'About Me' picture and info is useful too. I like the metaphor of ICT being 'spice' for a classroom - hopefully not too 'hot'!! Well done on a great start!
