Seasoning 2 Facilitate TBLT with WebQuest!

Today I am going to introduce an amazing ICT tool for English teaching---WebQuest, which is especially useful when applying task-based language teaching (TBLT)!💘

What is WebQuest?

WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which students get all information from the web. It is an assignment students complete using the Internet to research a specific topic. Teachers provide their students with documents that include links to websites to use the information, according to the activity.

An English Holiday

Today I explore a Webquest called 'An English Holiday'. The WebQuest is mainly about working collaboratively to plan a trip to the UK.

If you are interested in it, please take a look at the following link:

Analysis from different perspectives:

Reading 💬

1. Students have a chance to read through some key points of the history of England together, and some interesting official websites.

2. Students can improve their reading strategies, including scanning for bullet points and skimming for details.

3. The WebQuest contains sufficient reading sources for students based on their own interests

4. These reading materials are all authentic.

Group Collaboration 👫

1. This WebQuest encourages group collaboration to the largest extent because students are involved in the discussion of choosing their role, reporting findings, and negotiating places they want to go. Finally, a collaborative product: an itinerary for a group trip.

2. Students should gather to design their itinerary together and achieve their group goals.

Autonomy

1. When choosing a role, students feel free to choose a role that has similar characteristics as themselves. Different roles have different focus points, including arts and music, historical places and budgets management. Everyone can have fun choosing their own characters and reading the articles they are interested in.

2. Students are free to express themselves when it comes to making decisions about itinerary design.

 An important tip! 😀

Pre-introduce the reading strategy and lead students to apply it when reading the website.

  7. Hi Daisy, Autonomy and Group Work are definitely strong points of the tool, right? I think you've thought of the strength of the tool well. Just one thing I would like to suggest that (I was advised this thing) - it'd be more interesting and easy for readers to start reading posts if you could introduce your topic briefly in the beginning :) Well done! I will be waiting for the next post!

    1. Hi Nik! As I could think of, the possible negative is that it needs students to bring electronic device to the lesson, which is only possible for private schools in metropolis. What do you think are its disadvantages?
